To The Summer Goddess- imitation of Keats

Did you ever think to imbrue my love
The dove-grey waters with your tears?
For I have seen a thousand cloud-seamed nights
Come into being in your eyes.
Have you ever paused to heed
The secrets of the playful breeze?
For summer nymphs sing of you, goddess
Your tawny hair catching the honeyed light.
When you kneel amongst your sentinel flowers
Their tiny faces bright with dew
Or on the sun-warmed stone sit sighing
Where, then, your fey companions all?
Perchance they seek shelter from merciless years
Sleep open-lidded beneath the cool skies
Far from sharp keening winter sorrow
Perfumed dreams a lush veil, a disguise.
My own mortal heart rends itself for you
As you spread your soft pale hands, and smile.
I would soon soothe the loss of your traitor betrothed
Could I but once kiss that sweet smile.
