Lullaby, lull our senses.

Crooked in a bough bent to his shape
by design, and times' rigour,
youngest grandson, shoulder pillowed
nestles his dreams close to my pulse.
Window open to gentling breeze
weighted in scent of wood smoke
smoulder and leaf mould,
sulphur of spent flame and spark of the new.
Scarlatti, a circlet of golden motes
ln low sun, hypnotise half closed eyes,
cradle whimsy and care away, and sway
afternoon slumber, a middling way
for our age.

'Stabat Mater' springs to
'Stabat Mater' springs to mind. Beautiful in its intensity, as this, in its gentleness.
