Empty of reason as that lone shoe in the lay-by
I crossed the border again; reverse field, a blue cross,
fierce hills behind me, you, in basement indigo
at the root of old reekie.
How can I walk without you beside me,
stretch of my limb and heartbeat of laughter.
How may I leave one lamb
at the foot of a withered tree.
