Dear Seb

When I think of all we are, and what we could’ve been
The past appears so far, like coral beneath the sea
And whilst my heart is broken,
From my last love: undecided
You keep me afloat like a buoy
Atop the darkest tide
When I think of all I was, what he could never be
It appears I was in love, with the hope that he’d love me
Just as my young heart’s tender
Like the soft wings of a dove
I realise we were breaking hearts
When we were making love
Like a thrown pebble skimming
Across a wide, vast lake
I kiss the slumbering past briefly
And fresh pain I feel rewake
Laying with my last love watching
Stars rushing across the sky
Not knowing the light that burned between us
Would ember soon and die
And now I see all that we were, was lost in naivety
I cannot help but mourn what I know can never be
Though my broken heart is bleeding
From his words that cut like glass
You aid me in my grieving
Pin my hope unto the mast
As I know all that you are, and all that you make me
There is no pain or worry as to if you think of me
Whilst I trust in this sunshine
My rain ceases to fall
You shelter me from sadness
And evaporate turmoil
And as tears fall like rain drops
Our future flowers in its stead
As a girlfriend I could hold your hand
But I can hold your heart as a friend
