THE END OF THE BEGINNING? (I.P.)

Pack away the Christmas tree
Put the cards into the bin
Keep the smile upon my face
Though I’m crying from within.
So sweet were all the carols
Sung beneath that Christmas moon
As we held hands beneath the stars.
But now, you’ve gone too soon.
Love of my life, the time had come
I knew you had to leave;
You were far too young to go,
Leaving me alone to grieve.
I look at your picture on the wall
And think – why am I such a fool?
I should be glad, not sorrowful
On my son’s first day at school!

A feeling most mothers
A feeling most mothers experience! Would be nice to have them back for the occasional day! or, when there are a few siblings, maybe one at a time for a change now and then!
Nice twist put across. Rhiannon

Loved this, Linda. I remember those feelings so well. Sweet picture, too - he does look little to be in a uniform, but very smart and cute as a button.

Linda, lovely tight reliable
Linda, lovely tight reliable rhyme and that light touch you have when you write about precious family members always maintains emotional control. Your conclusion is such a trick and a relief, makes your reader's dread - just for a split second.
