TIGHTROPE (IP)

In matters acrobatic
Sue was a true fanatic.
She loved to stretch and run and jump
It really gave her Dad the hump –
So she thought she’d live the old cliché’
Join the circus, run away,
Find fame and fortune, and romance;
Eat fire, ride horses, learn to dance!
So now she’s happy in a trailer –
And still her Dad says she’s a failure.
But seeing the smiles on the face of the crowd,
Unobserved, Sue’s Mum is proud
Of what her daughter has achieved –
For who would ever have believed
That sparkling figure soaring high
Was once so plain and quiet and shy?
She left right after Susie’s act;
Knew how her husband would react
If he thought she’d seen their girl again!
Still, it was worth any pain
To see her beaming full of hope
While she daily walked her own tightrope.

Interestingly told little
Interestingly told little story, Linda, the last line summing up her new life in many aspects, I guess.
Still, it was worth any pain – I did wonder if that line could be a bit filled out to keep in the general metre? Rhiannon
