Empty Vows

Thunder rumbles in the distance
The scent of rain is in the air
Maybe their meeting was happenstance
But look at everything they share
In the beginning their love was strong
Over the years, thing seemed to have changes
Something went terribly wrong
It's almost as if they feel estranged
Here she sits still in this marriage
Knowing she left a long time ago
Feeling each day that she's upon a stage
Trying not to let the emptiness show
Hoping and praying that things will improve
Holding steadfast to her marriage vows
Keeping their lives running smooth
In her heart trying to sort the whys and hows
Will she ever leave, likely not
That would take courage of which she's low
He's her husband and all she's got
She'll shoulder this, and never let him know

Thought this would be an interesting topic. Mainly I found the image of
someone being in a marriage, but having left a long time ago to be
thought provoking.
