L - Stars and Bars

Just a flag say many. Not true, say I.
For its ideals many have died.
It represents freedom, and all we hold dear.
I can't help but shed a tear.
Each bar could be miles those fighting are from home.
Each star are those they gazed upon alone.
The red significant of the blood they've shed.
The white the innocence of those now dead.
Sand of beaches, dirt of jungle floors,
mud of battlefields and simple wooden floors.
How much blood has seeped in them during war?
In our own land and on many a foreign shore.
So many have fought gallantly and given their last breath,
in hopes we keep our freedom to avenge their death.
Through the illusion of time, united we stand.
Freedom loving Americans hand in hand.
