Sterling Roses

Present at every special moment.
The moment you proposed.
The moment we took our vows.
To celebrate the birth of each of our children.
Each day one of our children wed.
The birth of the grandchildren.
Each time these silent beauties stood present.
Now there is a spray adorning your casket.
I realize how tragically beautiful these roses are.
Purplish color with a touch of gray.
I wonder if the gray could be from all the tears;
tears of joy and sadness shed.
Covering the roses simple bloom.
And I think now, how ironic they lack thorns.
