Time and Tide

Time goes in tumbling torrents.
Like water in a creek bed,
you're never sure how much has flowed by.
One moment you're holding a child's hand,
before you know it he's a grown man.
Time is fluid and slips away without knowledge.
The older you get the faster it flows.
Until life seems like one big race to old age.

My father used to tell me that the older you get the faster time goes.
I used to think (back when I thought I knew it all) 'yeah right, time
is time and it all flows the same'. Not true. Now I'm older (enough to
know that I don't know it all) and he's right. It slips away before you
even knew it was there.
