Looking for Breezes
By little chilli
- 596 reads
The lights slid past the car as we flew past
Windows rolled down, the night air
Slipping in around us.
The roads were empty, deserted,
So we surged forwards
Wheels gripping the tired tarmac.
We hesitated at the cross roads.
The lights flickering red to green
Echoing our uncertainty.
A stranger in our roads hit his horn.
The blaring sound urging us on,
So we swung right, along more empty roads.
The summer’s air was heavy and stifling.
I couldn’t breathe, felt trapped, caged.
We drove to the coast to find a breeze,
Stood by the beach, watched the silent waves.
My stiletto heels sunk in the sand, held me back.
I kicked them off,
Ran barefoot across the wet sand.
My laugh was reckless and challenging.
At home, we hesitated by the drive.
Couldn’t bring ourselves to pull in.
More empty roads called us,
So we swung left,
Went looking for more breezes.
