FIVE TANKA
one
On thin power line
Wire, black and white on blue
Sky, a butcher bird
Lifts his head and flutes a fine,
Warbling tune to autumn sun.
two
Gum tree on a hill;
Leaf clusters on autumn blue
Where white cloud puffs float.
Suddenly, the sister forms:
Clustered cloud and clouds of leaves.
three
Black against blue-green,
Twilight, winter sky, a pair
Of straw-necked ibis
Have settled on a bare branch:
Form against infinity.
four
Late winter wattle
Blossom perfumes wild, dry wind:
Trace of year's turning.
Above, a buzz as bees search
Galaxy of yellow suns.
five
Day hazes far hills.
Butterflies light on yellow
Dandelions in grass.
Jacaranda bell, falling
Joins a purple carpet- silently.
