My Birthday

Another orbit of the earth spinning round,
Another cycle of the seasons.
16 cycles have passed since I entered this world;
Kicking, Screaming and demanding attention.
So much has changed since then;
So many people, times and places!
I've lived in more places than I care to retale,
and seen more tears than I care to even recall.
But on this 16th cycle, I celebrate all of these things passing.
I allow my system to become overwhelmed,
by fluids that play havoc with my senses.
I smile with my friends, and remember these things.
I remember how I felt about them then, and how I do now.
Cold reflection on my own decisions.
I reflect upon how these things have built me into the person I am;
A person opposed to violence, and a person who lives for life.
The joy's of life far outweigh the miseries you suffer.
Despite this cruicial, oh so cruicial fact,
We continue to reflect on our wrong's so desperately,
Thinking of how we could have done it right, rather than what we can still do.
So on this day of the 16th cycle, I celebrate.
I celebrate my birthday, and I smile.
But I don't smile because I've survived all of the miseries.
I smile because I realise the friendships I've built,
I smile because I realise the life I've forged.
