Safe Revenge

Standing in a flood of safety,
That bright pool of light in the street.
Rain pounds as wind howls,
All heads to ground as we stand fast another year.
That weary cycle of this old, old earth.
Scorched by our passing,
Bruised by our failing.
This world stands to burn,
forced down under the onslaught of our brothers.
Yet you stand in admiration;
This world stands beautiful in the darkness.
That strange allure in the freezing rain,
and the icy beauty in the wind that batters at you.
It's a dying place under our thriving society.
Yet, are we so thriving?
As we continue to plough our way to paradise,
we destroy the utopia we've maintained for millenia.
So stand in your safety, admiring the rain.
Listen to the wind as you pray;
But as that last light flickers and fades,
Your safety will be washed away
as you fall prey to the rain,
to Nature's revenge.
