I WONDER WHERE WORMY WENT
By
Leyland Perree
I only put him on the floor
For a second (or maybe more)
While I went to make some tea
For my little friend and me
I must have spent too long away
Brewing up the best Earl Grey.
How I despair
I wonder where
That little wormy went.
I hope my wormy’s safe and sound
Tucked up snugly underground
Barricaded in his hole
Safe from rat or bird or mole.
I wish he was still here with me.
Dunking biscuits in his tea.
Without a care.
I wonder where
My little wormy went.
Perhaps he’s nipped out to the shops
Or popped off to the fair
Or caught a train from Waterloo
To Weston-supermare
I only pray he’ll come back soon
To end my discontent
Lord, hear my prayer.
I wonder where
My little wormy went.
Dear old Wormy, where are you?
Have you slipped off to the zoo?
Found your way to Timbuktu?
Or the jungles of Peru?
Perhaps you took a small canoe?
Or a van like Scooby-doo?
But then again perhaps you flew.
And got yourself a birds’ eye view.
Of the sky and ocean blue.
Can you see your garden too?
Now what’s that sticking to my shoe?
(It’s like some kind of icky goo)
And suddenly I knew. I KNEW!
Where little wormy went.
END.
