There is a country
that has a clock
that goes “cuckoo”
instead of tick-tock.
 
Its watches are made
with great precision
which makes one's choice
an easy decision.
 
It has a navy
(it may sounds daft
as it is landlocked)
but only a few craft.
 
With lots of lakes
in which to fish;
where the fondue
is a famous dish.
 
It has snowy slopes
that one can't resist
where one can ski
on or-off piste.
 
Also where Heidi
is the role model
for young children
learning to yodel.
 
A tennis player
said to be an old codger
but keeps on winning
is a man called Roger.
 
To other champions
he's still a threat
and of that country
the biggest asset.

The fact that they are multilingual is impressive but what I find more remarkable is that Switzerland has the oldest policy of military neutrality in the world. It has not participated in a foreign war since its neutrality was established by the Treaty of Paris in 1815. Switzerland was not invaded during either of the world wars.

I had a friend who was franco -swiss/american who did his military service there and they put him in charge of a group of Italian speaking swiss. He said it was a terrible muddle as neither could understand the other - so tongue firmly in cheek, avoiding wars has probably been best all round smiley

I used to live in a town in the north of Italy not far from Switzerland  I once was in Lugano, which is in the Italian-speaking Canton of Ticino and wanting some information I asked a station porter if he spoke Italian and was met by amused laughter. blush
