The Art of Compromise

In this country and across the pond
vexatious disagreements abound
crazy enough to drive one up the wall
or creating chaos and confusion.
Compromising is not an easy option
due to our obsessive obduracy
although failure is not what we wish
and that's why we adopt diplomacy.
To mediate could prove to be the key:
give and take is the order of the day.
Perhaps following a positive approach
we'll reach some sensible decision
and ignoring any rhetorical bombast
a plan acceptable to all will be found;
one which does not attract derision
and that the opposition won't lambast.
Some say we should procrastinate
and suspend a contentious process
that will lead to unbridgeable divisions
while others contend that such a move
is only contrived to avoid the issue.
How to change things for the better
remains an inducement for everyone.
Ultimately we'll have rapprochement
and with new hope we shall all rise
to the occasion and we'll celebrate
the triumph of the Art of compromise.
