Breakfast 'Chez Nous'

Breakfast time is mayhem at our house.
Mum is making a 'full English' for dad;
she is huffing and puffing because, while
the bacon is happily sizzling in the pan,
the egg won't play ball: with a splash
the yolk breaks and has to be scrambled.
The twins are claiming “it's mine”. Both
grab the carton of those cereals that go
crackle and pop but neither gets his wish.
The container tears with a rending sound
and the contents drop down on the floor.
Dad is about to intervene but – ring ring -
the doorbell goes and he runs to open it.
There is a ping on his oldest son's phone
who looks at it and shuts it with a snap.
His girlfriend has given him the heave-ho
and he feels like his life is crashing down.
The wafting smell of the cooking sausages
has reached the nostrils of the hungry dog
who suddenly wakes up and wags his tail.
His plaintive cry “Ouuuuuwwwww!”
is echoed by the equally famished pussycat
who joins him with a screeching “ Meoow”
Breakfast Chez Nous is always the same.
It's frenetic at times but we cope alright;
If we hear one of the kids saying “Ouch”
we know one of them pinched the other
but when it's followed by a lot of giggling
it is a sign they're having a ripping time.

An onomatopoeia frenzy! Grand
An onomatopoeia frenzy! Grand stuff Luigi.
When I'm having my breakfast the only onomatopoeia you'd ever get a hint of would be the slurp of the coffee. Boring perhaps, but necessary!

Can't say I'd heard of the word
but you definely nailed it.
This piece is so full of action, wordcraft and humour. I was almost breathless by the time I'd finished reading it.
Good candidate for golden cherries IMHO
Well done Luigi one of your great gems.
