We had no Nintendo or Super Mario
many moons ago when I was a boy.
In those days children were content
to play with only an ordinary toy
like a stuffed teddy bear or a doll
sophisticated enough to say 'Mama'
but likely to lose an arm or a leg,
the cause of an emotional drama.
I remember to have been impressed
by a metal spring twisted and kinky
that could roll down the staircase
which we knew by its name, Slinky.
We amused ourselves with a variety
of card games,and also magic tricks;
we whirled a hoop around our waist
or tried our skill with Pick-up-sticks.
Some old toys have lost their appeal;
children nowadays no longer shop
for yo-yos that are spun up and down
nor do they favour the spinning top.
Electronic games are all the rage
with today's parents unable to avoid
their children asking for a new iPad,
a tablet computer or similar android.

A nice trail of memories. The
A nice trail of memories. The children probably do get tired of electronic games etc and enjoy a simple toy, and doing something more physical, and even enjoy imagination with the boxes the toys came in! Rhiannon
