Slowly the city awakes
and another day begins.
The night finished her shift,
the morning will take over.
and another day begins.
The night finished her shift,
the morning will take over.
In an apartment block,
during the hours of darkness,
certain events took place;
some passionate and frantic,
others at a slower pace
but nonetheless romantic.

At dawn the cockerel crows,
the alarm clocks go off
and people turn the radio on.
A jazzy tune pervades the air
- a syncopated rhythm
stressed by a persistent drum.

A glance out of the window
shows how the traffic grows.
A tramp, rising from a bench,
stretches his weary bones,
and ponders on his existence,
miserable and humdrum.

A lad ogles a young wench
who’s running for a tram.
He is being filmed by a man,
carrying a camera and a tripod,
who dreams of being a director
nominated for a brace of Oscars.
He’s making Cinéma vérité,
an avant-garde movie, perhaps.

A jogger runs down the road
with an iPod in his ear;
- he has calories to burn.
His pounding feet match
the tune he’s listening to.
His wife awaits his return.
However ordinary it may be,
life goes on.
with an iPod in his ear;
- he has calories to burn.
His pounding feet match
the tune he’s listening to.
His wife awaits his return.
However ordinary it may be,
life goes on.

I liked this poem Luigi, with its stability of what really matters...that we live to see a new day.
