Clearing the Attic

A box full of toys,
some tapes, the odd
tennis ball.
A wooden racquet,
warped,
dating back to the days
of Borg and McEnroe.
Row upon row
of old paperbacks;
romances which used
to fuel our dreams
with poignant plots
that made us shed
some tears.
These relics from the past,
about to be consigned
to black bin bags,
bring forth
an emotional tide.
The memories
of many eventful years
cannot be cast aside
by the sweep of a broom.
