Dark and Light

I experienced a really weird feeling
whilst I lay on my bed, in the dark.
I thought that I must be dreaming
as I heard the sweet song of a lark.
Then my body embarked on a journey:
I was floating, high up on the ceiling,
looking down at a corpse on a gurney,
and my head at once started reeling.
Lights sporadically shone, like a strobe;
I perceived the Grim Reaper’s presence
and saw angels in flowing white robes.
The sensation of doom was intense.
Was I dying, I wondered, was I dead?
But if I had died how could I speculate
on thoughts that filled me with dread?
It was a premise I could not postulate.
The darkness vanished, so did the curse,
as soon as I awakened in a hospital ward;
I was still alive and the smile of a nurse
was such a blessing and a great reward.
