Drink and Be Merry

There are those who like
to imbibe white wine
produced in vineyards
by the river Rhine.
Maybe a dry Riesling
or else the Eiswein
whose grapes were frozen
while still on the vine.
Although drinking vino
is thought to be fine
by some, the rest
are of the opinion
that beer is best
and they look forward
to quench their thirst
at the Oktoberfest.
They do not intend
to be drinking hard
but can be tempted
by an extra tankard.
If they end consuming
more than they can cope
it will be the beginning
of a slippery slope.
The dates of the festival
had been duly pencilled
in many people's diaries
but now it's been cancelled
and for that we've to thank
the current pandemic,
so any intention to attend
is purely academic
We may remain at home
where we can sit and glug
home-made real ale
from a glazed Toby Jug
The alternative we have
to drink and to be merry
is to ingest canned beer
brewed in County Kerry.

Great poem Luigi, I've never
Great poem Luigi, I've never been to the Oktoberfest, but went to a lot of bier Keller nights in Bristol during my younger days and boy did we party, up on our benches with stein in hand swaying to an oomph band. My ex husband's brother played the trumpet in one of the bands and wore the traditional lederhosen shorts...mind, you had to have the right legs for those shorts.
Your poem put a smile on my face...as always.
