Mark my words. We are going to be big.
Let’s arm ourselves with electric guitars,
book a nice venue and perform a gig.
With three silhouettes as our avatars,
it shouldn’t be difficult to achieve fame.
It is on the stage that our talent shows
but good reputations are built on a name:
what if we called our band ‘The Shadows’?
Our lead singer is no longer in his prime,
he wears Doc Martens and sports a quiff.
Writes his own songs which do not rhyme
and his pizzicato, or palm muting, is stiff.
He’s no Pavarotti but he is a good actor,
he doesn’t let on we failed the X Factor.

Hi scratch. The opening in a poem or a story is very important as it either hooks or puts off the reader. I am glad it worked this time. My original poem was half the size but added more lines for good measure.

My thanks to you and to the donor of the cherry. When I first joined ABC all the editors had a number which was quoted in the notifications of cherry picks and although we didn't know their name we recognised the most frequent benefactor by its numeral I.D.

Yes Luigi I agree.  I don't think that there is a best way of judging quality - and after all is all entirely subjective anyway - but there's no doubt that getting recognition of quality by the gaining of a cherry award definitely garners more reads and interest.  Best of all is the comments that people leave because that helps us all to improve.  There is such a breadth and depth of talent it is hard to keep abreast of everything.  This is a cracker and now I will have to go and read Biggus' cherry effort now. Thanks for the heads up.
