An endless downpour
and the skies very dark.
A scene reminiscent
of Noah and his ark.
A month’s worth
of “almost biblical” rain
fell on the UK
in just one day.
The deluge was
a dreadful disaster
that hit cities and towns
saturating the ground.
We would like to say
that quietly flows the Don
but it broke its bank
and flooded Doncaster.
But it wasn't the only stream
that disgorged a torrent,
it was joined by the Derwent
and a turbulent Trent.
The alluvion caused
a great deal of chaos
with a lot of damage
and a tragic loss.
We hope against hope
that we get some respite
but the forecast warns
of more rain overnight.
