Things had been bad
for quite a while
In Unhappy Albion,
“ this sceptred isle”.
Many people thought
life was more fair
in the times of Wilson
and of Tony Blair.
Under a government
of a different hue,
the cost of living rose
and resentment grew.
It was not unusual,
let alone strange,
that the electorate
wanted a change.
For a stormy situation
to become calmer,
the solution had to be
to vote for Starmer.
They did this in droves;
the Tories cannot hide
that Labour has won
by a massive landslide.

And the bad news?
And the bad news?
Nice one Luigi. Your poem brought a smile, as always.

The bad news? Well, just wait
The bad news? Well, just wait for another five years and we'll have to through it all again; anyway, good luck to the new government - they'll need it!

it's hard to go forward with one foot on eggshells
and the other on quicksand, but I hope Keir can managed to find a path through the mire of British politics.
Good observations as always, Luigi

It still feels very odd to be
It still feels very odd to be talking about 'the Starmer government'. It says something about state of the nation that the best hope of so many of us is that this lot won't be as bad as the last lot!
