I'd Like to Be An Inventor

I would like to become an inventor
like Alexander Stepanovich Popov
who was famous for dreaming up
things no one else had thought of.
 
A Russian physicist, he was said
to be the first among many to claim
to have devised the radio receiver
which elevated his name to fame.
 
Not only I'd follow in his footsteps
but I would surpass his expertise.
I'd transmute metal base into gold
or find a cure for every disease.
 
I do not wish to be like John Dee
the occultist and failed alchemist.
I am a distinguished researcher
and not at all like him a fantasist.
 
We are often told that necessity
is the mother of all innovations
but I want to be called the father
of new ideas by the whole nation.
 
And should I succeed in my quest
to achieve peace for all mankind
I'll be hailed as a hero, a saviour,
and praised for my brilliant mind.

I, too, like your ambition. You already have a brilliant mind though, now you just need to invent something. What could it be? Trump- repellent? Rachel x

I wouldn't touch any politician with a barge pole and I think a useful invention would be a gag that could silence all of them (of whichever colour) forever.

Yes Nolan, Testa, Edison, Marconi and others were all eminent scientists involved in developing a range of electrical and mechanical devices round about the same time.
