An Italian Holiday

We flew on a budget airline
to Bergamo-Orio al serio
then we went on to trace
a place called Tavernerio.
On an hillside outside Como,
with bendy roads that sneak
upwards away from the city
till it reaches the brae's peak,
it has many hamlets within
its jurisdiction, one of which
was the locality we'd chosen
as it seemed the perfect niche.
An iron gate, near a bus stop,
opened to a cobbled driveway
that lead to an elegant villa
where for two weeks we'd stay.
The good reception that we got
from our kind and friendly host
plus the sunny and warm weather
was for us what counted utmost.
Because we did not have a motor
we travelled by public transport
but when the bus wasn't running
to walk was the last resort.
Even so we managed many sorties
to the city of Como and its lake.
Sailed to Cernobbio on the ferry
to have lunch and a coffee break.
I'd been to this city many times
and know the environs quite well
and as I enjoyed this short holiday
regretfully I had to say farewell.
