Last Chance Saloon

They all congregated in the Last Chance Saloon
to quench their thirst one Sunday afternoon
in the town of Caldwell in the Sumner County.
There came a posse who were after the bounty
all very hopeful to get the reward in their paws
for catching criminals and dangerous outlaws.
They wrongly believed that these were inside
where they had taken refuge wanting to hide.
They burned the building but were confounded
when their suspicions proved to be unfounded.
The drinkers scarpered and escaped the fire
but in the end the tavern resembled a pyre.
The incident at the time gained prominence
and the survivors thanked divine providence.

What a way to try to catch
What a way to try to catch the outlaws! Sounds as if they would have probably escaped, too, or if not, many more might have been killed.
Neatly told tale again though, enjoyable to read, good flow and rhyming as usual. Rhiannon
