Les Parapluies de Cherbourg

We met, as agreed,
at the Odeon cinema.
We bought our tickets
-she insisted on going Dutch-
and watched a French film,
“Les parapluies de Cherbourg”.
She said it was a ‘classic’
that she liked very much.
I sensed a loving mood
that hinted at romance
and the look she gave me
was akin to compliance.
On the way to her flat,
we felt a few raindrops.
She said we could’ve done
with one of those umbrellas
sold in the Cherbourg’s shop.

The rhyming came in so naturally, Luigi, and the poem sounds like a joyful memory.
