The Letter

As he opened the letter

he knew

that she’d flown the nest.

‘Dear John’, the missive said,

‘I am leaving you.

I think it is for the best’.

At first he was distraught

but then he thought

there had been a mistake

for his name wasn’t John,

it was Jake.
