“This new medicine
is the elixir of life”
said, with a smile,
the solicitous wife
who eagerly waited
for her widowhood
as the hubby drank
a brew of monkshood.
A spoonful of sugar
masked the flavour;
the odds of his death
were in her favour.
He'd been suspicious
of that herbal drink,
so, unseen by her,
poured it down the sink.
Then he told his spouse
to forget that medicine
because it was obvious
that it wasn't genuine.
The mariticide attempt
had been quite hollow.
For the would-be widow
a bitter pill to swallow.

A dark tale adroitly told in poetic form. Enjoyed this Luigi. Take care, Paul
