A Man For All Seasons

When I wrote a poem
which sought to denounce
the bleakness of Autumn,
I was derided
for my point of view.
So I have decided,
for diplomatic reasons,
to become a man
for all seasons.
I therefore renounce
my previous condemnation
and ask my dear friends
for their forgiveness:
I made the wrong choice.
I will still sing
the praise of Spring,
Summer and Winter
but I shall also rejoice
in Keats’ celebration
of the ‛season of mists
and mellow fruitfulness’.

Ha. I like the idea of ‘denouncing’ a season. Not that I would ever denounce autumn, more shockingly perhaps I think that spring gets far too much adulation for such a windy, unpredictable, unsettled, often cold, wet season. It’s all promises and no delivery *awaits hate mail*. I enjoyed your poem. I’m pleased that you have reformed.
