The Medium is the Message

I don't always understand
your cryptical messages.
The ideogrammatic icons
attached to your emails
are different each time.

One day, the emoji shows
two luscious scarlet lips
and I take it to mean
that you're sending me a kiss.

Are you saying you sense
my desire for your love
and reciprocate the feeling,
or are you taking the piss?

I would like to think that
you are just as keen as I am
to begin a close friendship.
It would be pure bliss.

The next time a laughing face
tells me you are not serious
and a wink emphasises it.
A smile wouldn't come amiss.

I was expecting a loving icon
but received a 'ha-ha' image
and when I sent a sad emoji
you replied with an angry hiss.

Perhaps I have offended you
with my incessant demands
for a steady relationship
and you want to end all this.

Let's forget this pictorial talk,
and meet face to face instead
to finally resolve our difficulties
in order to remain good friends.
