I am sitting down to write my memoirs.
I shall relate the incident of the parakeet
but not what took place in some boudoirs.
I can keep secrets and I am most discreet.

I have been called a libertine and a rogue,
because I am attracted to beautiful faces
but it is only natural to follow the vogue
as men are expected to be giving chases.

At least that is what we are led to believe.
I wonder what happened in the beginning,
Adam had no choice: there was only Eve.
It was stalemate and no one was winning.

My autobiography will not be salacious
- some episodes will have to be omitted -
but it’ll be factual and won’t be fallacious.
I hope that some vanity will be permitted.

I’ll endeavour to find the highest bidder
but if they are insistent on each juicy bit
it might be more prudent to reconsider
to stop my consort from having a fit.

Luigi, I am certain your autobiography would be a best-seller, and no mistake:-) And I for one would certainly want a copy. I agree with Jennifer, hands down. You are a little bit of a soundrel. Shame one doesn't hear that word too much these days. Odd how words come in and go out of fashion ... something you will never do, of course, Luigi:-) As usual, muchly enjoyed. Tina xxx

Dearest Tina, you are a brick. This is another odd expression but I would say apt. I don't know if you recall but it was you who called me a libertine in one of your comments. A word which proved quite useful and which I have incorporated in this poem. Perhaps my autobiography would prove more popular than my latest poetry collection. It's funny how people judge a book to be a best-seller; I recently read that a certain book sold ONLY 20,000 copies. I remember selling 120 copies of my first anthology "Idle Thoughts" and I was over the moon, as the saying goes. Still, everything is relative. Anyway, I am rambling. Dearest Luigi - yes I most certainly do remember;-) and when I wrote 'Le Libertin' I must have had you in mind:-) Speaking about sales of books, as you were, I recently visited my local antique's shop. I had given them twenty or so copies of my book to sell, in aid of the hospice as you know. She didn't do very well with sales, to say the least, so I'd previously told her not to charge for them but that any donation customers would like to give in aid of St.John's would be well received. It seems she couldn't even GIVE them away!! Who says poetry books aren't popular?:-) Any suggestions as to what I can do with a loft full of books? On second thoughts ... maybe not:-) By the way, I often sit quietly and dip in and out of your lovely book. Seems folk don't know what they are missing. Ah well, such is life. Tina xxx
