A Momentous Occasion

The mourners had embarked on a funeral march
as I entered the cemetery to join the procession.
The collar of my shirt had been stiffened by starch
and that was emphasizing my suffering expression.
To pretend genuine heartache is a masterful art
and I wondered which relative felt true sorrow.
There is always someone who thinks he’s smart
and waits for the will that’ll be read tomorrow.
The rain began falling with lightning and thunder
ominously threatening the skies to be torn apart.
We knew that the coffin should be six feet under
but siphoning the water wasn’t easy for a start.
I thought: “I should go, but it won’t please pops.
I shall have to wait for the scattering of earth
even though I’ll be soaked, til the casket drops.
I just hope the deceased recognised my worth."

Very neatly worked on again,
Very neatly worked on again, with clever rhyming, Luigi. I liked the comment on the stiff starch suffering! and thought altogether I preferred your use of the phrases to what seemed to be some of those songs the phrases came from! Rhiannon

Sorry, it was meant to be a complement for your veres, not any insinuation that you needed to have relevance of what they were, I don't know them either really, just an impression on clicking on to them. Rhiannon
