New Beginnings (I.P.)

We see the year out with ‘Auld Lang Syne’
leaving behind turmoil and trouble;
we greet the new year with sparkling wine
or a wee dram (but make mine a double).
This is the advent of new beginnings,
of regeneration and renewed hope.
We are determined to last many innings
and halt the slide of a slippery slope.
This is the time when we declare
our zest for living is still extant.
Having once suffered bad luck and despair
we make a promise we won’t recant.
It is a pledge we continually make,
that we’ll improve and change our ways,
and yet we know we invariably break
our resolution in a matter of days.

Nice one, Luigi, and need I
Nice one, Luigi, and need I say I, too, admired the 'but make mine a double'. And speaking of which, I might just need to go and taste the suitability of the 'cooking wine', before I lob a wee dram or two in the gravy, to accompany tonight's roast pork.
