Over the Odds

They wanted to sell,
we wanted to buy
but at the last minute
the plan went awry.
We had made many plans
and it was our intention
to improve that property
with a new extension.
We had put in an offer
that we thought good
which they had accepted
or so we understood.
We never imagined
that another buyer
would be willing to pay
a sum that was higher.
It soon became clear
that our limited finances
would severely restrict
our purchasing chances.
With the grim realisation
that we'd been gazumped
we gave up all hopes
and our shoulders slumped.

I liked this one, Luigi, with its agreeable cadences and rhythm pattern and easy rhyme.
