When one takes part
in a pub quiz
it helps considerably
if you are a whizz.

We had a question
about religion
about which I know
only a tiny smidgen.

I said that Patrick
is an Irish saint
but I was told
"Oh no, he ain't!"

Born in Roman Britain,
he was held in captivity
in Ireland and had
a sinful proclivity.

He was destined
for hell and damnation;
he said as much
in his Declaration.

But in the end
he saw the light
to his followers
greatest delight.

He became holy
and from then on
he was venerated
as an Irish icon.

I believe he was kidnapped and spent a long time in slavery in Ireland, but later having become to true faith and Christian life, he returned to spread the gospel in Ireland, which brought an end to some vile 'religious' practices,  and that is why he is honoured so much there. Rhiannon

Yes, Rhiannon, that seems to be the case judging by the Confession - or Declaration - attributed to him.

Hi JoAnne. Good to find another person who appreciates rhymed poems. I am one of the old school who believes in following the traditional rhyming format but I also try to diversify the content by adopting a light and, at times, a humourous touch. I thank you for your kind words regarding my 'talent' which is only a technique learned over the years.
