I must tell someone to relieve the tension
that was caused by my old age pension.
The DWP decided that they would tweak
the amount they paid me until last week.
But it was not a reduction, it was a rise 
and I was unprepared for such a surprise.
It was augmented to cater for 'age addition'
(being old seemed to be the only condition).
To be a senior citizen doesn't bother me
but I worry on how to spend the extra 25p
that every week will replenish my purse.
The advice I am given is not to disburse
my pelf to con-artists leading me astray
and to save those riches for a rainy day.
But to hell with caution is what I say
let's go to to town and blow the lot away.

Whoa, steady there, Luigi, don't spend it all at once!  I'm sure there's an investment guru somewhere who will tell you to put it aside at 0.00000001 % rate of interest!

Not gained dishonestly, but one wonders at the cost of notifying and introducint these mini-raises! Rhiannon

It is one of the many terms that describe wealth, not necessarily obtained dishonestly. The following is a definition I found: "A great amount of accumulated money and precious possessions:"
As you say one might question the wisdom of introducing these paltry sums.

Well, I supposed if you saved carefully you would have an extra £13.00 a year and could treat yourself. Never heard of pelf either so thanks for a new word too. Rachel x

Hi Rachel. 
Yes I would be richer by the amount you state (less any tax due on it) and even though I should admit that every little helps, I wouldn't be able to write a tongue-in-cheek poem about the situation.
