Raindrops

Raindrops keep falling on my head
while I'm waiting outside the Odeon.
I'll see you there, rain or shine, you said,
but that the sun was a sine qua non
you didn't mention and I am confused.
Though I invited you back to my place
you didn't trust me and so you refused:
you'd only meet me in an open space.
I thought it over and considered it best
that, to show you that I was sincere,
I would accede to your earnest request
and that's why, dripping wet, I'm here.
But perhaps you have met with your ex,
kissed and made up, forgetting the past,
and with him you have gone to the Rex.
I should have known we wouldn't last.
I am an hopeless romantic at heart
and losing you is what I most dread.
It would be a pity should we drift apart
and I don't mind raindrops on my head.
