Reading Night

It’ll be a social occasion
and a literary fest
where budding artists
will give us their best.

There will be poets
and writers of prose.
We will hear the pieces
they had to compose.

They’ll read with aplomb
to great acclaim
and we shall relish
the way they declaim.

There may be a bard
with a bee in his bonnet
whose sole intention
was to write a sonnet.

Some will be humorous
with the chosen topic;
it could be a comic verse
about someone myopic.

I am sure that we’ll have
an enjoyable time
and that we’ll be treated
to something sublime.
