A Titanic Struggle

The name Prometheus was anathema to the gods
especially Zeus who with the Titan god was at odds.
Having decided that mankind did not deserve the fire
to see his authority undermined filled him with ire.
He had wanted to make sure that everyone would conform;
"No human may use fire neither to cook nor to keep warm ",
he had unequivocally stated and didn't expect
he would be disobeyed and shown a lack of respect.
But the supreme trickster had pilfered the most sacred flame
and yet he never expressed remorse or show any shame
That he had to be harshly punished was without question,
Zeus sentenced him to endless torment for his transgression;
Prometheus was bound to a rock and left to shiver
with terror, while a golden eagle pecked at his liver,
eaten daily, but regenerated during the night.
To see him suffering like that was a pitiful sight.
