An Unexpected Response

I had a Campari,
and she a gin and tonic.
What happened next
was quite ironic.
I didn't expect
she would disparage
my serious offer
of a stable marriage.
Almost reticent,
her reply was laconic.
In fact, it sounded
rather sardonic.
Our relationship
had to be platonic
even though I said
it should be hedonic.
My amorous pursuit
had been so chronic
that in the end
I felt catatonic.

'-ic' words have a nice
'-ic' words have a nice bounce to them! Quite an aid to humour.
I remember my mother's lodger having teasing fun with her when she was horrifed when he showed her that her dog had come back from the kennels with tics. He teased her by bringing in 'tic' words all the time, and the culmination was 'dogmatic' (dog-ma-tic)! Rhiannon

Looking back to the days when I was married, I would say that catatonic is a very appropriate word to describe the experience.
