The Vizier's Daughter (I.P.)

One thousand and one night, a thousand tales;
the Grand Vizier’s daughter held me spellbound.
She told wonderful stories and kept me awake
and I was bewitched by that melodious sound.
I was eager to hear of exciting, exotic escapades;
my requests grew more and more imperative,
I could no longer contain my lust for learning,
I wanted to listen to Scheherazade’s narrative.
She was tantalising and kept me in suspense
stopping in the middle of such engrossing prose
that I could hardly wait for it to be progressed
but surprisingly found that I could not impose.
My willpower crumbled under the pressure,
I perceived an impending sense of impotence,
a mellowing and a weakening of my firmness,
insofar as I could no longer exert any influence.
What had happened to me, the ruthless ruler,
that once betrayal and infidelity could not abide?
I fell head over heels with the lovely narrator
and promised myself that she would be my bride.

Thankfully I also are not beheaded. :))
Nice to hear off you to Luigi I like your picture standing by a door, you look very relaxed and I am now sure you were/are a model to add to your brilliant writing talent.
I enjoyed how you had produced a concise and enjoyable poem from this interesting story.It intrigues me to ,and made me smile when recalling how he spared Scheherazade life because of the way she had read to him, over and over again.
I like how even if a reader does not know of this story, you told it so it can be observed and learned easily!.
I also think its fitting for the IP, and not that I am telling charming Luke how to deliver his cherries, but I feel you deserves one or two.for this poem!!
take care

And old picture or not its a nice one.

Hi Luigi. I too thought this
Hi Luigi. I too thought this was a very good inspiration point, and have always liked the 'Arabian Nights' idea. And you have done it full justice with this poem. Much enjoyed.

True Luigi. Few tried the
True Luigi. Few tried the 'Araby' IP which surprised me as it seems a rich subject. It does seem a bit quieter than usual round here maybe people working on competition? Hope so there don't seem to be many entries so far. And I feel the quality of your poetry is not in doubt!
