The Wait

Although oceans apart
two women share the pain.
Betrayed by their lovers
they wait for them, in vain.
One, standing on the Cobb,
directs her eye to France
with grim determination
and a resolute stance.
Impervious to the rain
that is pelting the quay,
she hopes to spot a vessel
but sees an empty sea.
The other, in Japan,
a fluttering butterfly
by the name of Ying Huang,
was left high and dry.
Every day she looks
-against the voice of reason-
for a funnel to appear
on the distant horizon.
Both girls will not accept
that the lovers took flight.
You may be asking questions
on hearing of their plight.
Do the scoundrels return?
What is the women’s fate?
If you don’t read their stories
you’ll have to speculate.

Well, I looked up Madame
Well, I looked up Madame Butterfly, after looking up the singer, but wasn't sure if the other is a particuar story? A glimpse of sad waiting, flowing well. Rhiannon
