A Weekend in Bath

Smoked salmon.
Scrambled eggs.
Full English.
Coffee or tea.
 
Pretty waitresses
in pristine uniforms.
It is breakfast time
in a Bath B.& B.
 
The Rugby Club
is not far away.
Not in the mood
for sport today.
 
The objective being
to have lots of fun,
we can surely find
an alternative way.
 
A morning visit
to the eating house
and historic museum
of Sally Lunn.
 
Book dinner there
if so inclined
or simply purchase
the original Bath bun.
 
The Roman Baths and
the Temple Courtyard
are very popular
and worth a look-in.
 
Or you may prefer
to enjoy music
while having coffee
in the Pump Room within.
 
You suddenly find
there is no time left
to see more attractions
and you have to scurry.
 
Oriental restaurants
serve excellent curry
but you cannot stop
as you are in a hurry.

Last time I went (except in my head during a jane austen novel) was in the seventies - so I really should repeat the process now!

Many people have said that Jane Austen hated the city but she never made her feelings about Bath known except through characters in the two novels she wrote in Bath. While Anne Elliot in Persuasion dislikes it, the protagonist of Northanger Abbey exclaims "Who can be tired of Bath?"

Hi Luigi,

we don't live far from Bath and my partner and parents were born there. Used to go on a regular basis, but haven't been for a few years. Did you get to drink the spring water? It's so clear and aromatic and we don't have to pay for it because my partner grew up in Bath. 

Your poem describes well the city and just love the beautiful buildings too.

Hi Jenny,
of course there is much more to Bath than I described but with my snapshot I wanted to give the impression of a fleeting visit. It would obviously take more than one weekend to discover all that the city has to offer. I know that residents have free access to many facilities.
