A Word to the Wise

It is always advisable,
to avoid any confusion,
to inform unwary addicts
that the 7- percent-solution
that Sherlock Holmes took
is the cause of the problem
and not its solution.

I think my advice is sound
and as I try to cobble
a few notes together
I can hear the sound
of heavy horses’ hooves
pounding on the cobbles
of 221b Baker Street.

I don’t feel that I am
exceptionally brave
pointing out that the matter
is seriously grave
and that an addiction
can be deleterious
and  lead to an early grave.

For the people affected,
to give up narcotics
requires determination
and a lot of bottle.
Before taking any pill
it would be wise to read
what it says on the bottle.

You are so right, Luigi. I've recently suffered horrible withdrawal from Tramadol. Don't go there. Poem worked well.

Dear Bee, I do sympathise.  I know that some medications can lead one to become addicted to them and it is quite a wrench to relinquish the dependence on the drugs that the body seems to crave. The sufferings caused by the withdrawal can be terrifying.
On the other hand we must also consider the drug taking that is not the consequence of a medical condition but social recreation and the so called 'pleasure' derived from its use.  The dangers of a calamitous outcome because of an overdose are obvious and so is the debilitating effect of a prolonged abuse.

Enjoyed finding your 'word-couples', Luigi. Not easy to do without making the verse 'heavy'. You've done it well.

You are right, Rhiannon, the words would have been more noticeable in bold characters but the word search would have not been the same fun.
