Catnapper

He was posh and he was swanky
In his suit with the purple hanky;
A perfect gent as he walked along with his cane.
The bookshop, it was busy
The proprietress in a tizzy
As she fretted over the loss of her little kitten.
"Fret not!" said our hero
As he set out for the P.O.
"I will look for the fluffy little truant!"
He heard a bell tinkle,
Two eyes with a twinkle;
He pounced on the escaping little bundle.
A group of locals saw this,
Drew their breaths in with a hiss
As he walked away with a kitten in his pocket.
"Stop thief!" they cried
As he lengthened his stride
And chased him down the road towards his friend.
The kitten, we surmise
Was taken by surprise
And made his feelings known with teeth and claws!
Poor Edward! Under attack
From the pocket and the back
Used his cane to make a path into the shop.
For sixty years and more
He hadn't broken any laws
And now his reputation dangled from four fluffy little paws.
"Is this your cat?" he gasped.
The lady said "Alas;
My Suki is a girl. AND she isn't black like that!"
