Is this what you wanted for Valentine's Day?

You want something
From the heart
You said to me
Your lips curled
Eyebrows arched
As if you were asking me
To slay a princess
And rescue a dragon
Isn’t that the order
It’s Valentine’s Day
You reminded me
With the same voice you use
To mark the dog’s booster shots
On the calendar
Even the dog hid under the table
When you said
It’s Valentine’s Day
And I was tempted to follow him
Something from the heart
For once would be nice
It was a strange lead, but
I followed
I longed to see your face open
The canyons in your forehead
Turn to valleys once more
Your laugh that reminds me
Of crinkling tinfoil
What is this you ask
What did you do
Careful with that bottle
It’s all I have to give
I sit down my head spins
It wasn’t easy to procure
You wanted something from the heart
I thought it was a strange request
To someone so literal as I am
Why are you crying, baby?
